Senate confirms John Durham as Connecticut U.S. attorney
HARTFORD (AP) — The U.S. Senate has unanimously confirmed John Durham as the chief federal prosecutor in Connecticut.
The Senate voted Thursday to approve Durham as U.S. attorney for Connecticut. President Donald Trump had nominated him to replace former U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly, who left office in October as part of a purge of federal prosecutors who had been nominated by former President Barack Obama.
Democratic Connecticut Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal called Durham a fierce but fair career prosecutor who has taken on organized crime and government corruption.
Durham has served in a variety of positions during his 36 years with the U.S. attorney's office.
He also was tapped by attorneys general to investigate the destruction of CIA videotapes and the Boston FBI office's relationship with mobsters.
