Annual animal adoption event honors Sandy Hook victim

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Animal enthusiasts will gather in Newtown next month to honor the life of one of the children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.

The fourth annual "Catherine's Butterfly Party" will be held June 9th on the campus of the former Fairfield Hills Hospital and is hosted by the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.

Hubbard was 6-year-old when she and 25 others were killed at Sandy Hook.

The sanctuary was started by her family.

The event will include music, crafts, food, animal exhibits and a demonstration by Connecticut State K-9s.

There also will be more than 20 local animal shelters and rescue organizations in attendance, with over 100 homeless pets on site to meet and greet families interested in adoption.
