State to use $7.5M from VW settlement on clean air projects
HARTFORD (AP) — Connecticut is making $7.5 million available to fund clean air projects.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced Friday this money comes from the state's share of a national settlement in the Volkswagen emissions cheating scandal. It's the second round of funding the agency has made available for projects that reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.
Commissioner Katie Dykes says the "smart investment of these settlement funds" for public and private sector projects will make Connecticut "a cleaner and healthier place to live."
The grant program will help cover the cost of replacing or repowering aging diesel engines in trucks, buses and other vehicles and non-road equipment. The agency has scheduled an Aug. 7 webinar to provide an overview of the program and review application instructions. Proposals are due Sept. 16.
