HARTFORD (AP) — Hartford police are investigating the 18th homicide this year in Connecticut's capital city.

Lt. Aaron Boisvert tells the Hartford Courant that some police officers are being moved from day shifts to evening or overnight shifts to respond to the "highest time" for violent incidents.

Saturday's homicide follows a deadly month in Hartford, when six people were killed. A review of city data by the Courant shows it was the city's deadliest month in four years.

Democratic Gov. Ned Lamont recently promised additional state resources to help Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport deal with such violence.

Hartford police say 23-year-old Roberto Vargas was found on the pavement suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest shortly after 2:45 a.m. He was later pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.
