Connecticut school district investigating blackface photo

SHELTON — A Connecticut school district is investigating a social media post of a person in blackface.

Shelton schools Superintendent Chris Clouet said he received a photo at around 6:15 a.m. Tuesday that showed what appeared to be a girl with a black substance on her face.

Clouet said he learned about the photo from Shelton police. He says some of the students who saw the photo on Snapchat are in middle school.

The photo is captioned with a racial slur and the person is making obscene gestures.

Clouet says there's no place in the district for "bias or discrimination or racism."

Clouet said he spoke with NAACP representatives, who are monitoring the district's response to the matter.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
