Dalio nonprofit group to hold first organizational meeting

New Haven (AP) — The first organizational meeting of a new nonprofit dedicated to improving Connecticut schools has been planned.

The Partnership for Connecticut's board of directors is scheduled to convene Friday in New Haven. The meeting will be open to the public, despite the General Assembly agreeing to exempt the nonprofit from the Freedom of Information Act and state ethics laws.

The nonprofit includes state funding and is a partnership between the government and Dalio Philanthropies, the foundation created by Ray Dalio, founder of Bridgewater Associates, the world's largest hedge fund.

Four legislative leaders sit on the board. Last month, House Republican Leader Themis Klarides refused to sign documents from the partnership, asking her and the other lawmakers to take certain actions. She requested a board meeting and in-person vote instead.
