Students hurt when deer crashes through school bus windshield

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — Police say a deer went crashing through the windshield of a Massachusetts school bus, sending four students and the driver to the hospital.

Dartmouth police Detective Kyle Costa says the students and the driver suffered "very minor" injuries in the crash just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.

He says a car hit the deer first, launching it through the bus's windshield.

    The deer was killed.

The Dartmouth school department said the students were middle and high school age. Other students on the bus were either released to their parents or brought to school.

Thirteen-year-old Zachary Lake wasn't hurt but told WPRI-TV that glass went flying everywhere including in his hair.

His mother, Gillian Lake, praised the bus driver for remaining calm and keeping the children safe.
