Bridgeport police investigate city's 1st homicide of year

BRIDGEPORT (AP) — A 38-year-old man was shot and killed early Friday morning in Bridgeport, police said.

The gunfire at about 1:30 a.m. was first detected by the city's gunfire sound detection system, followed quickly several emergency calls, Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said.

The victim was found down in the street suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, Fitzgerald said.

Police identified him as Hassan Lemon, a city resident.

There was no word on any arrests.

The shooting was the city’s first homicide of 2020. There were 17 homicides in the state's largest city last year, up from 11 in 2018. Of last year's 17 homicides, arrests have been made in eight as of Dec. 31, police spokesman Terron Jones told The Connecticut Post.
