UConn to play Saint Joseph in NCAA opener

UConn will play Saint Joseph of Philadelphia on Thursday at 6:55 p.m. in the second round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament in Buffalo, N.Y.

The Huskies (26-8) were seeded seventh in the East Regional while the Hawks (24-9) are the No. 10 seed and won the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament Sunday in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Should UConn advance, it would face the winner of Thursday's other second-round game between No. 2 Villanova and No. 15 Milwaukee. If the Huskies win twice they would advance to the East Regional Sweet 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Providence, which won the Big East tournament title, was seeded No. 11 in the East and will open against No. 6 North Carolina on Friday in San Antonio.
