UConn to play Oklahoma in Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day

Storrs – UConn accepted a bid Sunday night to play Oklahoma in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day in Glendale, Ariz. (8:30 p.m., ESPN).

The Huskies (8-4) will make their first BCS bowl appearance in program history and will represent the Big East against the Big 12 champion Sooners, one of the storied programs in college football.

It will be the first meeting between the two schools. Oklahoma (11-2), which rallied to beat Nebraska 24-20 in Saturday's Big 12 championship game, is ranked ninth in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll. UConn, which defeated South Florida 19-16 for its fifth straight win, made its 2010 debut in the poll at No. 25.

There was speculation that the Orange Bowl would use their at-large selection to pick UConn and match the Huskies up against ACC champion Virginia Tech, but the Orange Bowl committee opted to take No. 5 Stanford (11-1) instead.
