UConn's Hartley named to State Farm All-America Team

UConn sophomore guard Bria Hartley was selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association/State Farm All-America Team on Saturday. Hartley is the 15th UConn player to be honored all-time, totalling 25 selections.

Hartley is the fourth UConn sophomore to be named to the team along with Svetlana Abrosimova (1998-99), Diana Taurasi (2001-02) and Maya Moore (2008-09). Moore was also selected to the team as a freshman.

Hartley, a member of the preseason Wade and Wooden Award Watch Lists, has averaged 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists. She was an All-Big East first team selection this season, a year after being named the league's Rookie of the Year.

Joining Hartley on the team were Skylar Diggins (Notre Dame), Elena Delle Donne (Delaware), Brittney Griner (Baylor), Glory Johnson (Tennessee), Shenise Johnson (Miami), Chiney Ogwumike (Stanford), Nneka Ogwumike (Stanford), Odyssey Sims (Baylor) and Alyssa Thomas (Maryland).

Griner, Mulkey sweep AP honors

Whether emphatically blocking shots or throwing down dunks on the other the end of the floor, Brittney Griner has been the most dominant player in women's basketball this season.

The 6-foot-8 junior phenom has led Baylor to a perfect record and the Lady Bears stand two wins away from becoming the first team in NCAA history to win 40 games in a season. Now she is The Associated Press player of the year. Her coach Kim Mulkey completed a Baylor sweep of the awards, being selected coach of the year.

"It's an honor," said Griner, who became the first Baylor player to win the award. "We have a great year going and for it to be the perfect season for me, we've got to win the national championship."
