    Opening Reception of Gil Boro Solo Sculpture & Annual Members Show at MAC

    MYSTIC, CT – January 5, 2012 - On Friday, January 13 from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, the Mystic Arts Center will host a duo of exhibitions featuring sculptor, architect and international design consultant Gilbert V. Boro along with a broad variety of creative artwork by Mystic Arts Center members during their annual members only show.

    Boro received a B.A. from Duke University and two advanced degrees in Architecture from Columbia University. He has been a design studio instructor, lecturer, panelist, critic and juror at the Boston Architectural College, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, and Duke University. Boro’s work has earned numerous awards over the years and has been exhibited in galleries, art centers, public art venues and private collections in the U.S. and Europe.

    Boro characterizes himself as an abstract sculptor incorporating elements of planes and curves into mediums like stone, steel, wood, aluminum and plastics. He defines his work as "an opportunity for us to regain the creativity we all had as children."

    A small panel of judges will award prizes to MAC member artists during the non-juried annual members’ exhibition. The reception is free and open to the public and runs through February 18. It will be held in conjunction with the “Kindred Spirits” opening at Courtyard Gallery located across the street in Factory Square.
