Jane Lynch brings stage act to the Kate

    (Jake Bailey/janelynchofficial.com)

Jane Lynch's musical-comedy stage show started out in a rather unlikely way. When she was starring as Miss Hannigan in Broadway's "Annie" three years ago, she was asked by the folks at the 54 Below club in New York City if she wanted to do her act there.

They assumed, she has said, that pretty much everyone who's on Broadway has an act. Lynch didn't, but she liked the idea.

So she got her act together. And then she took her act on the road. She'll bring it to the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center for a sold-out performance on Tuesday.

In "See Jane Sing," Lynch performs tunes from a wide range of sources, including Irving Berlin and Nicki Minaj. (Yes, Nicki Minaj; stop right now, and go Google Lynch's version of "Anaconda.")

Joining Lynch onstage are the Tony Guerrero Quintet; Tim Davis, who was the vocal arranger on "Glee"; and Kate Flannery, who played Meredith on "The Office." (Lynch and Flannery have been pals since their days at Second City.)

And those of you who are particularly fond of Lynch's performances in Christopher Guest movies will be happy to know that she turns up in his upcoming Netflix film, "Mascots," about a mascot competition.

Jane Lynch, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; sold out; 1-877-503-1286.
