The Coast Guard Band fetes "Émigrés, Exiles, and Explorers"

Flutist Musician 1st Class Catherine Broyles (Submitted)

In Sunday's concert, the Coast Guard Band celebrates composers and characters who have lived in a different world.

The show, titled "Émigrés, Exiles, and Explorers," features Erich Korngold's overture to "Captain Blood"; "March" from Paul Hindemith's "Symphonic Metamorphosis": and John Williams' "Superman March," among other pieces.

As part of the program, too, flutist Musician 1st Class Catherine Broyles will perform Charles Griffes' "Poem," and that marks her solo debut with the band.

Also getting a moment to shine is soprano soloist Megan Weikleenget on a trio of Kurt Weill songs.

The Coast Guard band, 2 p.m. Sunday, Leamy Concert Hall, Coast Guard Academy, 15 Mohegan Ave., New London; free; (860) 701-6826.
