Steve Winwood returns to Foxwoods Friday

That Stevie Winwood will frustrate you. Or at least he has me.

In 1974, as he was fronting Traffic on the "When the Eagle Flies" tour, they didn't play "Evening Blue," "Many a Mile to Freedom" or "Rainmaker" or even "Freedom Rider." What the hell? I paid, I think, $8 for that seat!

Then, in 2009, I saw Winwood at Foxwoods. Not only did he STILL not play any of those songs, he also didn't do any of my faves from his post-Traffic solo career like "If You See a Chance" or "The Morning Side." And, no, he didn't do his "Sea of Joy" masterpiece from the one Blind Faith album.

Well, Winwood can atone for himself Friday when he hits the Grand Theater at Foxwoods. He probably won't — but it's not always about me. And that's okay because the dude's got so many good songs from across his career, plus his angel-ascending voice has endured quite well over the years. And if "I'm a Man," "Higher Love" and "Gimme Some Lovin'" are more in your ballpark, I can pretty much guarantee you'll hear those.

Steve Winwood, 8 p.m. Friday, Grand Theater, Foxwoods; $35-$55; 1-800-200-2882.
