Katey Sagal brings her band to Mohegan Sun

Actress Katy Sagal (Dan Steinberg, Invision/AP)

You know those ads about “the most interesting man in the world”?

Well, Katey Sagal could be the most interesting WOMAN in the world.

Not that she’s showy about it. It’s just that her background is populated with fascinating factoids.

It’s fairly well known that, early in her career, she was a backup singer for Bette Midler. But she also sang backup for — and was fired by — Bob Dylan. (He actually gave the boot to all his singers at the time.) Sagal was a backup singer, too, for Etta James when James opened for the Rolling Stones.

You might know that Sagal’s father was a director and her mother was a singer, producer and TV writer, but did you know her godfather is legendary TV producer/writer Norman Lear? Yup.

An interesting side note: Sagal has the hilariously iconic wig she wore as Peg Bundy on “Married with Children” in a plexiglass box at her house in Idaho, she recently told the L.A. Times.

While Sagal has earned acting fame with “Sons of Anarchy” and “Married … With Children,” she has kept her musician’s life going, too. She and her band, The Reluctant Apostles, are playing Friday at the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den. The band actually started with “Sons of Anarchy”; then called The Forest Rangers, they recorded songs, both originals and covers, for the drama.

The group still does covers — though of lesser known songs than the word “covers” might lead you to believe — and Sagal has called their sound “psychedelic soul music.”
