Same-sex Wedding A 'Dream Come True'

A little more than a month ago, Connecticut made history by becoming the third state in the country to legalize same-sex marriage.

Some couples set out immediately to get their marriage licenses and become married Nov. 12, the day the Supreme Court ruling became official.

And then there were couples who waited to get their licenses. Some of them had a special date in mind for their wedding.

That brings us Ann Meitzen and Joanne Pedersen of Waterford, who have been together for 10 years.

Meitzen and Pedersen were married by a Justice of the Peace Monday night at home in front of 11 friends and family members, including Pedersen's daughter, who drove from Massachusetts to be there. The date, Dec. 22, coincides with their first date 10 years ago.

”It's a dream come true,” Pedersen said afterward.

Said Meitzen, relaxing in an armchair in her living room during a quiet moment after the celebration: “I'm as legitimately married as anybody else in this room who's legitimately married. There's no difference. It's wonderful.”
