Astros trade Waterford's Bono to Marlins

It didn’t take long Wednesday night for Rob Bono to understand the significance of the trade.

“I’m a fish,” he said.

Bono, a former Waterford High great, was traded from the Houston Astros to the Florida Marlins in a deal that sent hard-throwing reliever Matt Lindstrom from Houston to Florida.

Bono went 10-8 at Class A Lexington (Ky.) for the Astros last season.

“I had no clue,” Bono said about the deal. “But in talking to people from the Marlins, they basically told me that with the season I just had, I shouldn’t be surprised that I was in a trade like this.”

Lindstrom features a fastball that can reach 100 mph.

Bono said he’ll be invited to a special mini camp in late February before spring training and that he would likely begin the season in Jupiter, Fla., the “high” Class A franchise of the Marlins.

Florida’s Double-A franchise, in Jacksonville, is also a possibility.
