    Stalking Richard Blumenthal

The McMahon campaign promised more bombshell video of Richard Blumenthal on Tuesday afternoon, which surely had at least some loyal Democrats -- or eager Republicans -- anticipating a video clip of the attorney general in camo face paint hissing into the jungle about how one must never get out of the boat.

But there was no Vietnam here.

Instead, the new McMahon hit is video of Blumenthal doing something he has already acknowledged doing: attending a fundraiser arranged by trials lawyers along with other Democratic Senate candidates in Vancouver. The video -- view it here -- intersperses verite shots of Blumenthal doing a lot of walking, and some snacking, with a now inoperative pledge that he does not take money from special interests. (Trial lawyers are, apparently, an extra special interest.)

Rick Green thinks it's brutal. I think our standards for brutality might be coming down a bit. (Insert WWE joke here.)

No, this isn't the Blumenthal killshot, though maybe that will change when things like Blumenthal's uncomfortable meandering in Vancouver, or his misstatements about Vietnam, are in non-stop rotation between innings of Sox games from August til the snow falls.

All I could think was that for a video of a public official being followed and surreptitiously photographed all over the place, the soundtrack is all wrong. I think you've got to go with either a) Gene Hackman playing his saxophone alone with the walls stripped to the studs, or b) the most stalkerish pop hit of this or any era.

Every step he takes, every fast he breaks, Linda's crew will be watching...
