Old Lyme - Asbestos-abatement work began Monday at Lyme-Old Lyme High School and continues through Aug. 27.
Students and people under age 18 are prohibited from entering the building or being within 20 feet of the exterior of the work area during the asbestos removal, according to the Lyme-Old Lyme school district website. The building will remain open to staff and anyone 18 or older who is not a student.
The $189,000 asbestos work - about a quarter of the total amount of asbestos to be removed as part of the $47.8 million renovation project, is being done by Ellington-based Bestech Inc. of Connecticut.
