Amtrak suspends all Northeast Corridor service

A crowd of stranded Amtrak passengers finally get to cross the tracks after waiting on the water-side of the tracks while an Acela train was moved Friday, September 3, 2010.

A spokesperson for Amtrak said the wire had been repaired by Friday evening, but service was still  suspended due to the weather.

Trains that were on route were allowed continue to their destination.

One of the southbound trains that left Boston’s South Station just before noon made it as far as New London.

Once here, passengers disembarked at Union Station around 4 p.m.  tried to find alternate means of getting to New York and, from there, points south.

Others remained on the train, which returned northbound for Boston.

CT Transit buses arrived at Union Station around 6 p.m. to bring passengers to  Old Saybrook or where they could take Shore Line East to New Haven. From there they could  make connections via Metro North to Grand Central Terminal.

Passengers should call (800) 872-7245 for more information.
