Parents being surveyed about teen alcohol, drug use

Usually when organizations and school conduct surveys to research alcohol and drug use by students it’s the teens who arec asked the questions.

But the Southeastern Regional Action Council is looking for input from parents and guardians as it conducts its Regional Community Survey.

From now through Dec. 31, parents and guardians can fill out an online survey which asks the adults questions about the topic and their attitudes about teen drinking and drug use.

Among the questions parents are asked is what percentage of children their child’s age use alcohol or drugs, how easy is it for them to get alcohol from various sources, how they feel about allowing teens to drink responsibly, if they have rules regarding alcohol and drug use and if they would be aware if their child was drinking or using drugs.

The survey can be accessed at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/G2RNL3C

In an e-mail to parents here, the Stonington Human Services Department said the responses of parents’ and guardians’ are crucial to the success of the project.

In addition, the town that has the highest percentage of responses from its community will receive a $1,000 donation for their local prevention council.
