On behalf of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut, I am writing to voice my appreciation for The Day's editorial in support of the league in response to attacks by Glenn Beck and others. ("Dirty tricks aimed at LWV," Oct. 30.)
As the editorial so ably pointed out, we are scrupulous in our debate planning with candidates and co-sponsors to ensure a professional and well-run debate with rules that are agreed upon by all well in advance. Throughout our long history, we have maintained an unwavering commitment to provide voters with a fair, impartial format suitable for hearing candidates' views on a variety of issues.
While we recognize that the heated campaign season brings many challenges with it, we are not impervious to the attacks on our commitment to an informed public and vibrant democracy. With so many issues upon which to write an editorial, we very much appreciate The Day's strong voice in support of the League of Women Voters.
Editor's note: The writer is president of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut.
