Foxwoods' December slot revenue up, Mohegan Sun's down

Foxwoods Resort Casino, including MGM Grand at Foxwoods, reported a slot-machine “win” of $45.1 million for December, up 1.2 percent over the total for the same month in 2009.

Mohegan Sun, meanwhile, kept $53.4 million in slot revenue last month, a 6.3 percent decline.

“We are encouraged by December’s results and particularly the strong pace of business on New Year’s Eve,” Scott Butera, Foxwoods’ new president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “We do, however, recognize that it is time for us to evolve as an enterprise and provide even more amenities and entertainment options that continue to appeal to our customers.”

At Foxwoods, the slots “handle,” or the total amount wagered on its machines, was up 6.3 percent last month.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, which owns Foxwoods, sent $12 million of its December slots win to the state Division of Special Revenue. The Mohegan Tribe, which owns Mohegan Sun, contributed $13.5 million to the state.
