Rocco earns 11th win of season at Speedbowl

Wallingford's Keith Rocco padded his point lead and picked up his 11th feature win of the season Saturday night by capturing the 35-lap SK Modified feature at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Rocco's victory set a single-season record for division wins. He won 10 races a year ago en route to winning the national title.

Other feature winners were Al Stone of New Haven, who won his sixth Street Stock feature of the season; Charles Canfield of New Haven, who earned his first win of the year in the Mini Stocks; and Chris Correll of New London, who captured his first career SK Light Modified feature.

In the touring NEMA races, Russ Stoehr of Lakeville, Mass., won for the second time at the Speedbowl in 2011 while Anthony Nocella of Woburn, Mass., scored a victory in the companion NEMA Lite feature race.

Rocco came out on top of a race plagued by 10 caution periods. He took the lead on lap-14 when leaders Glenn Pressel and Nichole Morgillo got together, drifting up the track. Jeff Pearl and Tyler Chadwick chased Rocco and battled the points leader over the remaining restarts, with Rocco coming out on top.

Chadwick finished second with Pearl, Rob Janovic Jr. and Mark Bakaj completing the top-five.

In the Street Stocks feature, Stone was followed by North Franklin's Chris Meyer while Franklin's Josh Galvin was third, Walt Hovey was fourth and Brandon Plemons of Uncasville placed fifth.

Correll was followed by John Bergenty in the SK Light Modifieds feature while Bob Charland was third, Colchester's Chris Ignazio fourth and Alan Beincaso fifth.
