What are the major issues for your town? Our town has come to know, appreciate and expect a quality of life that is unparelled. It will be incumbent upon the elected officials to continue to work together to control costs, plan for the future, encourage and cultivate new business opportunities and preserve our small town character.

As all of us are aware, a new/or renovated police station is being considered. Of paramount interest to every citizen is the expectation that we continue to support our Police Department and their ability to protect and serve while acting responsibly as a town to make a finacially sound investment. It will be imperative that this issue be discussed openly, that informational public sessions are offered, and that we allow the citizens of Old Saybrook an active voice in the ultimate decision.

Additionally, Old Saybrook has begun a new initiative called Sustainable Saybrook (www.sustainablesaybrook.org). A campaign to enlighten our citizens on ways we can work together to Sustain Saybrook will be a challenge that we can embrace for all of the right reasons!

What makes you the best candidate for this office? As an active member of the community/town for all of the 18 years I have lived here, I have demonstrated a commitment to work hard on behalf of others. As anyone who has attended a town meeting in the past knows, Scott Giegerich has made his presence and position known as an active citizen in the audience; I have stood tall and proud to speak on issues that we must address.

As the father of three outstanding Old Saybrook Public School students and the husband of an amazing public educator, our family is invested in this town. I expect to continue my relationships with a whole host of community members and organizations to represent the will of the people while holding true to the values and ideals that have gotten Old Saybrook named the Number 1 community year after year. Fiscal restraint and responsibility are the cornerstones of this success.

What was the last book you read, and what did you think of it? The most recent book that I have read is titled, "Teach Like a Champion" by Doug Lemov. The book is a wonderful tool for all educators to improve teaching and learning. Vignettes, practical applications and theory are interwoven to assist all in our quest to make a positive difference each and every day in the lives of our students.
