Major Boston PR firm hired to promote OpSail

The Regan Communications Group of Boston said Monday it has added OpSail2012CT in New London as its newest client.

Regan is the largest privately held public relations firm in New England. It's been hired by OpSail2012CT to develop and implement a communications and social media campaign to inform the public, encourage visitorship, spotlight the military community and highlight this region as a travel-and-tourism destination.

"This is going to be a fun, family-friendly event in southeastern Connecticut this summer," said John S. Johnson, chairman for OpSail2012CT. "We're excited to be partnered with Regan on this national celebration," he said in prepared remarks announcing the agency's hiring.

The OpSail event will be held in New London Harbor from

July 6 to 9 and will pay homage to Connecticut's maritime history and its significant milestones in American history.

OpSail is the congressionally chartered nonprofit producer of tall ship events. It has partnered with the U.S. Navy to celebrate the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. OpSail2012 will include an international tall ships tour of New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Baltimore, Boston and New London.

To complement this summer's festivities, OpSail2012CT has added New London's annual Sailfest event, which will include fireworks, amusement rides, free entertainment, and more than 100 vendors. For more information, visit www.OpSail2012CT.org.
