The sounds of joy you heard in the background Sunday may have been members of the Connecticut Sun traveling entourage, who have been spared at least one trip to Newark this season.
The Sun still open the 2012 regular season Saturday with a road game at the New York Liberty. The game, however, has been moved to Madison Square Garden at 4 p.m.
New York, whose home court is the Prudential Center in Newark (while the Garden undergoes a facelift) returns to its old home court because the Prudential Center will play host to the Stanley Cup playoff game between the Devils and Rangers.
Sun coach Mike Thibault said Sunday that other than the minor headache of finding sufficient hotel rooms in the city, the Sun look forward to the World's Most Famous Arena.
Connecticut completes its preseason tonight in Washington. Thibault gets one final look at his roster before he pares it to 11 players by the opener.
Rookies Dawn Evans and Chay Shegog, among others, make their final auditions tonight.
The Sun's home opener is Sunday at 5 p.m. against New York, the completion of a home-and-home weekend series.
