    NRC weighs politics over safety

Your opening paragraph in the July 8 editorial, "Don't store N-waste at Millstone forever," was right on target.

It's not only the federal government's failure on nuclear policy, but they regulate every aspect of the situation - including wasting 20 years and $10 billion on Yucca Mountain, only to have the project terminated by colluding politicians.

As for recycling part of the nuclear waste to be used again in nuclear power - as some nations do - as far as I know we don't do that nor are we allowed to have the nuclear waste processed by other nations. It's too dangerous. But, we sure know how to create wars and instability all over the world.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairwoman Allison Macfarlane has an uphill job to convince the U.S. Congress and the president to "get real," as it truly is a political - and badly handled problem - more than a scientific one.
