Waterford — American stock car and NASCAR driver David Starr is scheduled to sign autographs and speak at next Wednesday’s United Way fundraiser at the Waterford Speedbowl.
The nonprofit organization will kick-off its fall fundraising campaign during the event which begins at 5:30 p.m. A brief speaking appearance by Starr is scheduled to begin at 6:25 p.m., and the event, sponsored by Zachry Nuclear, Applied Physical Science and United Way, ends at 7:30 p.m.
Campaign Co-Chair Pat Gaffey, senior director, Pfizer External Affairs & Communications/ Science, Technology & Medicine/ Pfizer Inc and Harry Rodriguez, President AFT Local 5123 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, will serve as master of ceremonies.
The first 300 visitors to the Speedbowl will receive a Live United t-shirt or hat and event organizers are asking for a canned food donation of tuna or peanut butter for the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center.
United Way of Southeastern Connecticut is a non-profit organization that improves the lives of people who live and work in New London County and strengthens the community through local health and human service programs. United Way supports programs which improve community wellness, help children thrive, supply basic human needs, and promote independence.
