Gun complaint leads to marijuana cultivation arrest

New London – Police investigating a complaint of shots fired inside a Blinman Street apartment Tuesday arrested a resident there after officers spotted marijuana growing inside the man’s apartment.

After observing “several” potted marijuana plants growing near the front door of his apartment, police charged Trevor Blize, 26, of 31 Blinman St., Apt. 5, with cultivation of marijuana.

Police said a walk-in complainant Tuesday told officers Blize had been seen firing a rifle inside his apartment on an earlier day. When police went to speak with Blize about the allegation, officers spotted the marijuana, which police said Blize admitted to growing. Once inside the apartment, police said officers saw evidence of Blize owning firearms and evidence that a weapon recently had been fired inside. Blize showed officers a .22-caliber Mossberg rifle, which police said was in the back room in plain view. The officers seized the weapon and several hundred rounds of live ammunition, police said, and detectives have filed an arrest warrant for Blize on several weapons-related charges.
