Uncanny effort at Williams School

Eleventh-graders at The Williams School in New London, foreground from right, Cooper Feltes, Ben Lahm and Andy Brown, build a tree Friday from collected nonperishable food items as part of the Canned Food Creations event, the culmination of the school service committee's week-long food drive to benefit the Gemma Moran United Way Labor Food Center in New London.

Students built sculptures in the morning, with the winning grade getting $75 to use for class events. The 10th grade won for the most items collected and for their Eiffel Tower sculpture. Overall the students collected 812 food items for Gemma Moran.
