New London — Police have arrested a suspect they believe is responsible for a robbery that occurred Sunday night at the CVS Pharmacy on Bank Street.
Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said this afternoon police arrested the suspect on an unrelated charge of violation of probation. He said police would not identify the suspect until detectives prepare a warrant for the robbery, which is expected to be served in the next several days.
Police said officers responded to the pharmacy at 7:26 p.m. Sunday. They learned a white or Hispanic male wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with a red stripe across the chest and arms and black pants had handed a note to the store clerk that demanded the clerk "empty [your] drawer, just bills, no noise."
Witnesses reported the man kept one of his hands concealed in his clothing as if he had a weapon.
Police said the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. No injuries were sustained by any victims or witnesses. Officers searched the immediate and surrounding areas of the store, located at 817 Bank St. at the corner of Jefferson Avenue, but they did not locate the suspect Sunday night.
