Mystic Arts Center hosts Winter Art Gala Friday

During Mystic Arts Center's Winter Art Gala Friday, visitors can literally take the art off the wall. If they want to buy a piece, they simply remove it from where it hangs and then check out with it at the end of the night.

As soon as the art comes down, the MAC artists replace their sold work with a new one. Pretty cool.

The gala is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is $40; RSVP at (860) 536-7601, ext. 205. It will feature wine, soup from Mystic Soup Co. and salad. MAC staff and volunteers wrap gifts, free of charge.

The event kicks off a weekend of tax-free shopping. The gala is just the start of MAC's Holiday Fine Art and Gift Salon, which will run through Dec. 29. MAC is introducing a dozen new vendors and over 30 artisans to this annual exhibition. Unique, handmade gift items range from stoneware pottery to small mixed media works to jewelry.
