Fine art can come in small packages

The numbers say it all: The art in the Gallery at Firehouse Square's latest exhibition are no bigger than 8"-by-10" and they cost as little as $25. The exhibition, titled "A Miniature Show," is aimed at people wanting to buy art as gifts during the holiday season. The pieces are by an impressive group of artists, including - to name just a few - Randie Powers Kahrl of Old Lyme, Katherine Larocca of Fairfield, Robert W. Rich of New London and Lizbeth Maxson-McGee of Groton.

In addition, the gallery is opening - for viewing and purchase - its exclusive collection of original photographs by famed ornithologist and artist Roger Tory Peterson.

    "A Miniature Show" opens with a reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the gallery at 239 Bank Street in New London. The show runs through Dec. 31. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Wed., 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Thurs.-Fri., 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat. For more information, call (860) 443-0344 or visit firehousesquare.com.
