Ollie pledges $100,000 toward new basketball facility
UConn's new men's basketball coach is putting $100,000 of his own money toward the construction of a new basketball training facility on campus.
Kevin Ollie, who also played at UConn, says he thinks it is important for him to show his commitment to the planned UConn Basketball Development Center.
Ollie, who spent 13 years in the NBA, was hired in September to replace Hall of Fame coach Jim Calhoun. He signed a one-season contract with a pro-rated value of $384,615.
The school's Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved plans to begin construction on the $38 million training facility in the spring. It will be built adjacent to Gampel Pavilion, the team's on-campus arena, on the site of the school's former football stadium.
