Revis reports for Jets' workouts

Darrelle Revis was back with his New York Jets teammates - as rumors continue to swirl that he could be headed elsewhere soon.

The star cornerback reported Monday for the first day of the team's voluntary offseason conditioning program, a few hours after having an MRI exam with Dr. Russell Warren, the Giants' team orthopedist, at a hospital in Manhattan.

The MRI exam results, according to several published reports, were positive. ESPN New York also reported that Revis was cleared by Warren to begin running without restrictions.

Revis, who has been rehabilitating his surgically repaired left knee in Arizona, did not speak with reporters who were waiting outside the entrance to the Jets' training complex, driving past without acknowledging them.

Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez and Tim Tebow were also among the players who reported Monday.

Revis is entering the last season of a four-year contract. A clause in that deal prevents the Jets from using the franchise or transition tag on him next year, so if he remains unsigned, he would become a free agent in 2014. That's why Revis has been the subject of rampant trade rumors, with Tampa Bay appearing to be the most likely suitor.

Revis would have preferred to return to Arizona to continue his rehab, but will remain in New Jersey because his contract includes a clause for three $1 million bonuses that are tied together, including a workout bonus.

Revis tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last September against Miami, and underwent surgery the next month. He has been rehabbing since, and has indicated in interviews that he fully expects to be ready for the start of the regular season.

"We would love to have him as a teammate," defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson said on a conference call when asked about the uncertainty surrounding Revis' status with the Jets. "If he comes back, that's a plus for us."

About a possible Revis trade, Wilkerson said, "That's something I can't control."

Sanchez had a similar reaction when asked about Revis' situation.

"How would I feel if they trade Revis?" Sanchez said on a conference call. "It's not my call. I think he's a great player. I love him as a teammate. I love him as a friend. I don't make those decisions."

Tebow, who spent an unproductive season with the Jets last year after being acquired from Denver in a trade, showed up over an hour before the 8 a.m. reporting time.

Tebow is part of a crowded quarterback depth chart that includes Sanchez, David Garrard, Greg McElroy and Matt Simms, and it's believed the Jets still are trying to trade him. If that doesn't happen, Tebow likely will be released.

Tebow, who arrived at the Jets facility before head coach Rex Ryan, didn't speak to reporters. He called his current offseason "my best yet," when speaking Friday at his charity golf tournament in Jacksonville.

Sanchez arrived fresh from some private sessions with Jeff Garcia, who mastered the Jets' new West Coast offense with several teams. Sanchez immediately was asked about reports his name was mentioned in trade talks between the Jets and Tampa Bay.

All Sanchez knew was what he "heard from people around, and I don't know what to say." He added with a chuckle, "That is more of an upstairs question. I'm not worried about that."

Asked if Jets management had given him any clarification on trade talk, Sanchez simply said, "No."

AP Source: No Cruz as Giants start voluntary work

The New York Giants have started voluntary offseason workouts without restricted free agent wide receiver Victor Cruz.

A source close the team says Cruz, who has led the Giants' in receiving the last two seasons, was not at the well-attended workout at the club's headquarters. The source asks not to be identified because the team was not saying which players participated.

The Giants placed a first-round tender on Cruz a little more than a month ago. It allowed the popular receiver to enter restricted free agency, but it also gave New York the right to match any offer he received.

If the Giants allow him to leave, they will get a first-round draft choice as compensation.

The tender is worth $2.879 million for 2012 for Cruz if he does not sign with another team by Friday. He has not made half of that in his three pro seasons.

Cruz was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2010. The salsa-dancing University of Massachusetts player has 168 receptions for 2,628 yards and 19 touchdowns. He made the 2012 Pro Bowl and is considered one of the league's best slot receivers.

Top wide receivers in unrestricted free agency can earn about $10 million annually.

The media were not allowed to attend Monday's workout.

Hakeem Nicks, who battled and had a subpar 2012 season, participated in Monday's workouts.

"I kept it simple because it was my first time running routes," said Nicks, who has been running full speed for a couple of weeks. "I wasn't about to go out there and - it's still early right now. So my biggest thing is that I want my presence to be felt there with Eli (Manning). Because it is something that I do week to week. We're on the same page."

Quarterback Manning was thrilled to see Nicks on the field.

"It is always good to see him back healthy," Manning said in a release by the team. "He is still striving to get to 100 percent. Obviously, having a healthy Hakeem would definitely make our team much better."

The Giants (9-7) missed the playoffs despite a 6-2 start in 2012.

Ryan 'not too worried' about status of new deal

Matt Ryan says he is not focusing on contract talks as he appears destined to become the NFL's next $100 million quarterback.

The six-year, $66 million contract Ryan signed with Atlanta as a rookie in 1998 expires after the 2013 season. General manager Thomas Dimitroff says the Falcons hope to finalize a new deal with Ryan before the season.

Drew Brees, Tony Romo and Joe Flacco have recently signed five- or six-year deals worth at least $100 million. As the most recent Super Bowl winner, Flacco became the game's highest-paid player with his $120.6 million deal.

Asked Monday at his Matt Ryan Celebrity Am Classic at TPC Sugarloaf if he hopes to have a new deal before the season, Ryan said "I'm not too worried about it."
