    Young playwrights selected for festival

    The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center has announced five plays to be developed and presented during its eighth annual Young Playwrights Festival from May 10 to 12. The festival received 142 submissions this year; the highest number to date.

    The festival selections include:

    "A World with Three Sides" by Carin Estey of Waterford High School; "Return of the Heroic Son" by Shawn Lee of Fitch Senior High School; "If" by Alyssa Serrambana of Classical Magnet School; "Pigeon" by Elijah Singer of New London High School; and "The Cinderella Predicament" by Megan Sturm of Clark Lane Middle School.

    The festival will culminate with a script-in-hand reading of the students' work at 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, in the Dina Merrill Theater at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, 305 Great Neck Road, Waterford. The performance is free and open to the public.
