Sun waive van Grinven, need two more cuts

The Connecticut Sun waived undrafted rookie forward Chatilla van Grinsven on Friday as they continue to pare their roster down to 11 players. They currently have 13 in training camp.

Sun coach Anne Donovan said last week that the team has two positions open, a post and a wing.

Ashley Walker and rookie Latoya Williams are vying for the post spot. Walker, a 6-foot-1 forward/center, was the Seattle Storm's 2009 first-round draft choice and has played in WNBA 15 games. Williams, a 6-2 1/2 center, went undrafted after graduating from Chipola Junior College of Marianna, Fla. in 2009. She's played four seasons overseas.

Natasha Lacy and rookie Johannah Leedham are competing for the wing position. Lacy, a 5-10 guard, was the Tulsa Shock's 2010 second-round pick and has played 65 games for three teams. Leedham is a 5-11 guard-forward and Connecticut's 2010 third-round pick. She averaged a team-high 16.2 points for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Sun play their second preseason game today against the New York Liberty at Newark's Prudential Center (4 p.m.). They'll conclude preseason play Tuesday at the Minnesota Lynx.
