Hinchey leads Jaskiewicz in fundraising in Norwich mayoral race

Norwich - Democratic mayoral candidate Deberey Hinchey continues to lead fellow Democratic mayoral candidate Charles Jaskiewicz in campaign fundraising in the race that is expected to end up in a primary.

According to campaign finance reports filed Wednesday in the city clerk's office, Hinchey has raised $23,230, including $9,625 in the latest reporting period. Jaskiewicz has raised $10,010 to date and slowed his fundraising in the period from April to the end of June, adding $960 to his total.

Both candidates have received most of their contributions from individuals in small amounts. Hinchey's donations ranged from several $20 contributions to one donation at the state maximum allowed $1,000.

Donations to Jaskiewicz's campaign this reporting period ranged from $5 to $100.

Hinchey has spent about $7,000 thus far, having engaged a professional campaign consultant, the Vinci Group from Manchester, leaving her with $16,293 on hand as the campaign gears up, with the Democratic Town Committee endorsement caucus scheduled for July 22.

Jaskiewicz has retained much of his campaign funds, having spent just $700 to date.

While the anticipated potentially contentious Democratic primary might have fueled the early fundraising for Jaskiewicz and Hinchey, incumbent Republican Mayor Peter Nystrom has yet to gear up his campaign.

Nystrom and Libertarian mayoral candidate William Russell filed statements Wednesday that they did not rise or spend the required $1,000 during the reporting period to trigger a full report.
