Engineers to list repairs needed to Reid & Hughes building in Norwich

Norwich - Engineers will examine the Reid & Hughes building on Main Street today to assess its state of decay and make recommendations for immediate repairs that are needed to allow the city to market the long-vacant building once again.

The City Council on Monday tabled a resolution that called for allocating money to make immediate repairs to the roof and structure to prevent further decay until costs for the repairs are known.

Engineers from CLA Engineers Inc. of Norwich will tour the building with officials from the Norwich Community Development Corp. NCDC President Robert Mills told the City Council Monday that costs for the repairs and marketing costs should be known by the Aug. 19 council meeting.

NCDC proposed a timeline that calls for advertising and marketing the building through the end of this year, selecting a preferred developer by February and have the redevelopment project started by mid-2015.
