Boat fire quickly extinguished in New London

New London firefighters respond to a boat fire at Thamesport Marina off Pequot Avenue Tuesday, August 6, 2013.

New London — A fire on fishing vessel docked at a slip at the Thamesport Marina on Pequot Avenue was quickly extinguished Tuesday morning.

Fire Chief Henry Kydd said two employees at the adjacent Burr's Marina smelled the fire and used extinguishers to put out the fire.

Kydd's said all of city's fire stations responded to the scene because the city does not have a fire boat. He said they used foam to put out the remainder of the fire on the 31-foot Rampage vessel. He said the fire damaged the bilge and stern of the boat. No other boats were damaged. The fire was reported at approximately 10:15 a.m.

Kydd said the fire remains under investigation, but it appears to be electrical in nature.
