AFT Connecticut has endorsed seven Democratic candidates for New London City Council and Board of Education.
The labor federation’s Executive Committee voted on a slate of endorsed municipal candidates for Tuesday’s election, and last week informed active and retired members of its affiliated unions in the region, the union said Friday in a news release. AFT Connecticut represents 29,000 union members statewide, including 1,600 employees at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
For City Council, the union endorsed Efrain Dominguez, Erica Richardson and Laura Natusch, along with incumbents Michael Passero, the council president, Wade Hyslop, the president pro tempore, and Anthony Nolan, chairman of the Education Committee.
For Board of Education, AFT endorsed incumbent Margaret Curtin, the board president who also is a retired member of the AFT-affiliated A&R Local 4200.
Candidates for local office completed questionnaires beginning on a series of policy issues important to the members of AFT’s local unions and their communities, the union said. Members of the federation’s legislative and political action committee reviewed the responses and made recommendations for endorsements to its executive committee.
