More evidence that single-payer way to go

United Healthcare's dismissal of over 2,000 physicians without any explanation and jeopardizing the health of their patients is an undisguised demonstration of how dangerous it is to leave health insurance in the hands of private insurers who find it easy to treat patients and doctors as commodities.

Health care is too important to leave to the arrogance and corruption that have come to define private insurance companies who, like UHC, ignore the human factor in medicine and dominate the destiny of a large part of our health system.

For those who oppose a single-payer system regulated by the government, United Healthcare's recent unilateral action provides the best example of why a single-payer system makes sense. At least with a government-regulated system, patients could vote out of office their political leaders who allow insurers to subordinate patients' health care needs to shareholders' profits.
