Federal mediator proposes union, L+M next meeting in February

New London – Negotiating teams for Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and the union representing about 800 nurses and technicians would not meet again until February, under a proposal made by Federal Mediator John Carpino.

Matt O’Connor, spokesman for AFT Connecticut, said the union has agreed to the “cooling off period.”

Hospital spokesman Mike O’Farrell said this hospital is “taking it under advisement” but has not yet agreed to the proposal.

The two sides last met on Monday, ending the session without an agreement on a new three-year contract. Nurses and technicians returned to work today under the terms of the contract that expired Nov. 16, after a 19-day lockout by the hospital preceded by a four-day strike by the union. The hospital unilaterally ended the lockout at 6:45 a.m. this morning.
