40 Under Forty: Nathan Adelman

Nathan Adelman is president of Odetah Camping Resort, Inc. located in Bozrah, Conn. Used for outdoor recreation since 1905, Adelman's family established Odetah as a campground in 1978.

After taking over in 2001, Adelman guided the business to become one of the country's premier camping and RV destinations. Odetah is rated by Woodall's as a 5-Diamond property, a distinction held by less than 2% of the nation's campgrounds. Odetah was voted "most beautiful" in Connecticut by Frommer's Travel Guides and has been seen in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, on ESPN and NESN. Odetah was awarded the National Association of RV Parks & Campgrounds website of the year in 2004 and was selected as the 2007 national Workamper employer of the year.

Adelman has used business as a vehicle to give back to society and the local community through sponsorships, donations and by hosting charitable events. He developed a program called "Campout To Stamp Out Cancer" in 2011, which contributes a dollar for every reservation made at Odetah to Backus Hospital's Cancer Center.

Adelman is a graduate of The Williams School in New London, Conn., and Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. He has held many industry association positions with the Connecticut Campground Owners Association, the Northeast Campground Association and served as chairman of the Eastern Regional Tourism District for the State of Connecticut.
