Stonington to hold hearing on condo plan for Mystic Color Lab site

The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing Tuesday night on new plans to develop the former Mystic Color Lab property off Masons Island Road into luxury condominiums.

The commission approved a similar project in 2005 but it ran into financial problems and never went past the cleanup and grading of the site.

The new owners, Edgewood Mac LLC, are seeking three approvals to construct four buildings with a total of 55 units arranged around an interior courtyard with a pool and cabana.

Plans also call for demolishing the only remaining part of the color lab, the western wall and mill tower, because they have become "structurally unfeasible" according to the application.

Last year, a group of residents successfully opposed a plan to build a dental clinic in front of the color lab site citing concerns about traffic and safety.

That project was much smaller than the color lab project. The hearing begins at 7:30 p.m. at Mystic Middle School.
