Griswold — State police arrested a fugitive from Massachusetts Tuesday after receiving information that the man had been located at an address on Route 2 in Preston, according to a press release.
Peter V. Tavares, 61, of West Wareham, Mass., was charged with being a fugitive from justice and was due in Norwich Superior Court Wednesday. Police found him on Mathewson Street in Griswold.
Trooper Scott Pierce said that Tavares was to be transported back to Massachusetts to face charges for his original crime.
Wareham police issued a warrant for Tavares’s arrest after identifying him as a suspect in a stabbing that took place in a wooded area of Wareham last week, according to a press release on the department’s website.
Connecticut Trooper Dawn Pagan, the arresting officer Tuesday, said she did not know how or why Tavares came to Connecticut.
