New London – The Ledge Light Health District will host a prescription drug abuse panel discussion at 7 a.m. April 29 in Baker Auditorium at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Gail D’onofrio, professor and chairwoman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine, will give the keynote address. Panelists will include Dr. Bernard Giserman of Pediatric Associates of New London; Dr. Mustapha Kemal of L+M; Jeff Messina, owner of Fort Hill Pharmacy in Groton; Dr. John Paggioli of the Eastern Connecticut Pain Treatment Center in Norwich; and Dr. Samuel Silverman, medical director of substance abuse service at Rushford Center and assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.
The panel will discuss topics such as identifying drug-seeking behaviors, alternative methods for pain management, the cycle of addiction, and the Connecticut Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Question-and-answer session will follow.
