Mary Stone wins Democratic nomination for 23rd House District

Old Lyme — Mary Stone of Old Lyme won on Tuesday the Democratic nomination for state representative of the 23rd House District covering Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook and Westbrook.

Stone, a writer and editor who serves on the town's Zoning Board of Appeals, is focusing her campaign on job creation, public education, storm preparedness, environmental conservation, medical rights and resources for mental health.

“I'm really doing this to serve the people of our four towns by giving them the information they need and acting on their priorities,” said Stone after the convention.

State Rep. Marilyn Giuliano, R-Old Saybrook, holds the 23rd district seat, but will retire after this term. Last week, Republicans nominated Devin Carney of Old Saybrook, while Vicki Lanier of Old Lyme announced that she will primary.

In a nominating speech, First Selectwoman Bonnie Reemsnyder highlighted Stone's work on the Lyme-Old Lyme Board of Education, where she started a district newsletter to improve communication, as well as her diligence on the Zoning Board of Appeals.

"Really, she has been a big believer in good government," said Reemsnyder.
